Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and attack on women and other minorities in online spaces she is committed to breaking the stereotypes associated with popular culture. With a master's in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early age. When she graduated in 2009, still studying at university she started the Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to launch an internet program that would examine gender representation in games, and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. Instead, it strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critique. Numerous awards have been given to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency.
